Twisted Logic 2006

Who: Chris Martin plus three. j/k. Coldplay
Where:
GM Place. Floor. Row 29, Seat 47
When: Jan 27, 2006
How much:
~ $100 after taxes

For some reason, there was no general admission, which really sucked. I don’t understand the point of seats when you’re standing the entire time. The only benefit of seats is when you have to head for the washroom because the seat will still be there when you get back whereas you’d be at the back of the pack for general admission.

Opening acts:
Fiona Apple
I don’t know much about Fiona and didn’t care much for her act, so much so that I got up and starting walking around mid way through her set.

There was a large rectangular LCD screen behind the stage.

Tomorrow never knows (The Beatles) was played right before the group hit the stage. I wonder if anyone noticed.

1) Square one

2) Politik

3) Yellow

Small yellow balloons were dropped onto the floor seats near the stage. We all had a gay ol’ time hitting those balloons around. Eventually large balloons partially filled with gold glitter were dropped.

Interlude: Afterwards, Chris does his usually ‘Oh we’re not worthy’ schtick

4) God put a smile on my face

5) Speed of sound

6) The scientist

Some sing-a-long moment here

7) How You See The World

Interlude: Apparently Chris got food poisoning the night before or something like that. But don’t panic.

8) Don’t panic

9) White shadows

10) Trouble

Interlude: Chris had some strange story. Once as a kid, at a party, he sprayed this guy, Glen, with a water gun. And months later, Glen got a sex-change operation.

The whole band moved to the front of the stage and dedicated the next song to Sarah McLachlan, Fiona apple and the Lilith Fair.

11) Till kingdom come

12) Ring of fire

A Johnny Cash cover

13) X&Y

14) Clocks

Awesome alternate ending. They kept playing faster and faster until coming to a complete halt while killing the lights.

15) Talk

Encore

16) The hardest part

17) In my place

Chris obviously flubbed some lyrics. Smacked himself and apologized to the audience. He would run into the crowd all the way to the opposite side of the arena before returning to the stage.

18) Fix you

It sounded really good just like I thought.

Good Night (The Beatles) was softly playing over the PA system as we filed for the exits. Once again, I wonder if anyone noticed.

Side Notes:
Took a bunch of video shots during the concert: Square one, Politik, Clocks, The Scientist, Fix You, Yellow and some others I don’t quite remember right now.

Overall

I came in with low expectations and came out thoroughly impressed. A tad short but good. I still think the third album was disappointing, but definitely looking forward to the fourth album now.

Pecking order for concerts thus far

1)The Arcade Fire

2) U2

To be honest, I think the U2 show might’ve been better but being stuck in the 22nd row really put a damper on my experience.

3) Coldplay

4) Foo Fighters
