Daily Musings

I beat super punchout for the Snes about 1-2 weeks ago. I mainly played in the CHBE labs. Thanks to the word spreading about my ROMS, free space on the shared network drive has dwindled to 1 gig out of 50 gigs. Then again, many others abuse the shared drive (ie. mp3, video storage, bittorrent downloads. etc)

- I've decided to start skipping my tues/thurs 9:30-11 econ class because everyone has unanimously derided this class. Of course, I'll goto the midterm and quizzes, but otherwise, I'm gonna just photocopy someone else's econ handouts. Instead of attending this class, I'm gonna go for morning runs. Actually, depending on whether there's a Tuesday design meeting or not, I might start skipping Tuesday altogether, which I did today.

- today, I finished this fairly challenging mission in San Andreas called "supply lines" (well according to the two FAQs I read when I was stuck, although they were no help). Basically you have to fly this model plane (armed with machine guns) around san francisco and kill 5 couriers before you run out of fuel. I think it took me around 1-2 hours to finish this 5-10 minute mission.

two things that I noticed which really helped me out.

1) Use L2 and R2 when turning. Using the analog stick turns the plane sideways, which usually causes you to crash into the side of a building if not the asphalt. The controls are also very sensitive, but it's very to forget this during a mad scramble. Got to remain calm

2) When firing the machine guns, it's essentially on auto aim. For the horizontal axis, you just have to be pointed in their general direction while you don’t even have to worry about the vertical axis (ala Doom). Of course, you have to be within a certain range, but it’s hard to quantify here.

General strategy:

1) Kill the first guy to your left at the start. Shoot at the van ASAP. The guy will then get out of the van leaving him completely vulnerable.

2) The second guy is just around the corner on a bike. I think he gets off the bike, but either way, he’s an easy kill.

3) Dilemma. Two guys to the north. One to the south. Given the diminishing fuel supply, you have to kill the two guys to the north first. Just shoot at their vehicles until they catch on fire and explode (they’re too stupid to get out). You should have a little more than half a fuel tank at this point otherwise it might be tight.

4) Kill the last guy by shooting the van until it explodes. Then hopefully you have enough fuel to make it back to the last rooftop.

Oh yeah, Zero, the character who offers this mission, is voiced by David Cross (Tobias from arrested development). He’s pretty funny as the nerdy mail order store owner (Curse you Berkley!).
