Ultimate playoffs (last weekend)

We killed some jabronis in the first round 12-2. They stunk.

In the semi finals, we playing against "Holy Fach, It's Mack and Ross". They jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Then Kevin made a crazy ass lay out (it knocked the wind out of him and he went face first into the mud) for our first score. I knew we'd been in tough versus these Vanier kids. The wind had a big influence on the game which lead me to the following sports cliches: with the wind (home game), against the wind (road game) and we've gotta hold serve! (aka get the wind/home points). Unfortunately, the team and I weren't playing that consistently. We'd get the precious road point and then proceed to lose the home point. This happened several times. Eventually, they were leading 10-8 and things were looking really grim. Then we proceed to score 5 unanswered to win the game 13-8. I was on the sideline when the score was 10-8 and only came on for the last point when someone needed a sub. So yeah, I didn't contribute as much as I wanted, but thankfully we had a great win. I think the other team was starting to wear down by the end of the game.

I had a very close call in one of the first 2 games (I don't remember which one now). I was running diagonally for the disc in the air. Allen was running diagonally towards me and either trip and fell or dove for the disc. Allen was too close to me, so I couldn’t jump him over him without clipping him in the face. Instead I got knocked down/tripped by Allen and mercifully escaped a brutal knee injury. Man oh man, I’ve seen enough sports highlights to know that I dodged a bullet.

Wow. We were in the finals and I knew this was my last chance to win a UBC rec medal (Me winning Storm the Wall? lets be realistic now). We were up against the Whalers. According to some advanced scouting, the guys were insanely good and the girls sucked bad. Once in the game, I found out that this was only half true. One of the girls was actually a solid player. The guys were as good as advertised and they had a serious height advantage on most of us. Combined with their decent leaping ability, we were helpless on high throws. Despite the fact we scored the first 2 points, they lead 10-5 or something like that. To worsen matters, Kirk had to leave for some soccer game and Kevin had to stop playing due to bad cramps. To be fair, one of their players was also cramping badly. I made some good plays that got me and another person a score to draw us closer at 10-7. At some point, I slid thru for a touchdown pass, but I couldn’t come up with the disc. I just couldn’t make the additional plays to get us over the hump. Then, they got the back breaking 11th score and it was downhill from there. On the last or second last point, I was jostling with one of the Whalers and there was a high throw. He managed to out jump both me and my teammate and it would lead to a score. The sad thing was that we were wearing down by the end, which was ironic considering the other team didn’t have any male subs and 1 girl sub (both teams had played twice already…..third consecutive game). The other team played a pseudo zone and poached our guys which probably helped them conserve energy. They ended winning 12-7.

I slowly sulked off the field and looking over my shoulder. The other team looked happy and merry as that douche bag Kavie Toor presented their medals. That could’ve been me.

Epilogue: I was sick after iron ring and got just enough better for ultimate playoffs. However, Ultimate made me sick again on Monday and I had many aches and pains. Monday really sucked for me.
