Time for hockey history
From listening to these various hockey analysts (specifically the ones on "the score"), it sounded like team Canada annihilated the competition at the 2002 olympics and 2004 world cup.Damn goofballs. Check your history books.
2002 Olympics
- got creamed by the Swedes in the first game (2-5)
- barely got by the trapping Germans (3-2)
- managed salvage a tie with the Czechs. I think Al MacInnis scored the game tying game with 5 minutes to go, but I don't remember (3-3)
- survive a tight game with the Finns in the quarterfinals (2-1)
- destroyed Belarus in the semis (7-1). We're lucky we didn't have to face the Swedes again thanks to Tommy Salo (4 goals on 10 shots, including one from centre ice)
- beat the Americans (5-3) thanks in large part to Brodeur's big toe save on Brett Hull that helped swing the momentum.
2004 World Cup
- Close victory versus the American (2-1)
- Lost to the Russians (1-3)
- Versus the Czechs in the semis, on several occasions, the Czechs were cycling the puck in the Canadian zone for what seemed like an eternity. Yet we fluked out and won a game that we deserved to lose (4-3).
- Another close victory in the finals versus the Finns (3-2)
And while we're on the subject
1998 Olympics
- Undefeated in round robin (12 goals for and 3 goals against)
- Soundly defeated Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals (4-1)
- "Canada is so great. How can anyone beat them?"
- In the semis, lost to the Czechs in a shootout (2-1). Pack your bags and go home.
- We also lost to the finns (3-2) in the bronze medal game, but everyone stopped caring by then.
Remember: 1 or 2 bad goals and you're going home.
