The restaurant biz
Customer service is by far and away the most overrated quality of any restaurant. Unless I'm getting a blowjob, no amount of customer service can overcome bad and/or expensive food that leaves me unfulfilled. No surprise that value is also important to me since I'm a volume eater and I've inherited the sensibilities of the older Asian generation. As a friend once told me, if teenagers/young'uns are eating at restaurant A and elderly Asians are at restaurant B, go for option B as the elderly appreciate the value of a dollar whereas the youngsters are swayed by trends and other such nonsense. My go-to anecdote: visiting Hapa Izakaya in 2004. I finished work and I was running late, so I had a small bowl of cereal before heading downtown. Sadly, the bowl of cereal was more filling, it didn't cost me 20 bucks and it wasn't appreciably worse in terms of quality.
