Musings

Currently, I'm recording a lot of films on my HD-DVR and I feel some bizarre job-like obligation to record > 3 star films (out of 4 stars) as rated by the tv guide info. Luckily, I can watch a recording while recording another program and I can also record two programs at once (although the DVR then forces me to watch one of the recordings-in-progress). Despite ~40 hours of HD capacity, I find I'm always close to completely filling the hard drive. Especially in the last several of days, it's a struggle to watch as many movies as possible in order to delete them to free up HD space. It can feel like work. I also have some weird obligation to watch old James Bond films and since some of these films were decidedly mediocre, I really start to wonder why I'm forcing myself to watch these films.

Then I watch a film like Donnie Darko and I realize this can be worthwhile. Outstanding film.

Musings

Some Like It Hot: Surprisingly good. Not really laugh out funny, but very amusing.

The Pianist: Personally I think they should have called this film "Brutal soul crushing depression". Excellent film.

I hate people

"At Waterfront, passengers were unfazed by the long wait for the train and remained in line despite warnings they would have to get off at the airport and wait another two hours to get back on again."

Musings

- I saw Bruno last week. I think that a lot of people who hate this film are completely or partially homophobic. Really it's just a sign of the times. North american society generally looks down on racism and xenophobia while people either are indifferent or encourage LGBT-phobia. This is why people liked Borat, but hated Bruno. Personally I thought the film was hilarious.

- Finished off Mad Men season 1. The first half of season was hit or miss, but the second half was outstanding. The last couple of episodes has won several seasons of good faith from me. The carousel scene from the season finale absolutely tore it up.

- Finished Professor Layton and the curious village. Recommended.

Big day

In about six hours time, I'll be checking in for ACL reconstruction surgery. I wish I would've had more time for sleep, but I was so busy getting my place ready for post op recovery. My weight is 173lbs and I'm bound to lose 10 lbs in the next couple of weeks. Currently I positioned my mattress near parallel to my desk allowing me to lie down and use both my tv/consoles and PCs.

Must consume

Under threats from the dentist, I just ordered a $52 toothbrush online.

In more exciting news, I just bought a cast iron skillet.

In depressing news, I probably won't use the skillet for a while since my surgeon will strongly discourage me from extended periods of standing.
